Shenzhen-based automotive company BYD announced on August 27 that it will launch a variety of new energy vehicle models for the European market this fall, including the BYD Tang, Han and Yuan PLUS, and that it will participate in the Paris Motor Show in October this year.
Geely to Launch Commercial Vehicle Homtruck in Small Batches in 2023
On August 28, Zhejiang Geely New Energy Commercial Vehicles Group Co., Ltd. announced plans to release an intelligent luxury heavy-duty vehicle called “Homtruck” in small batches by the end of 2023. Homtruck comes with two power chains, a methanol extended-range electric drive axle and multi-motor central electric drive, and it will achieve a breakthrough 1000 km range for new energy heavy trucks.
SemiDrive to Supply Millions of MCU Chips to CATL
During the 2022 World New Energy Vehicle Congress, Zhang Qiang, the co-founder of SemiDrive Technology, said in an exclusive interview with 36Kr that its MCU E3 Microcontroller series chips have been used in battery management system (BMS), and that it will supply millions of chips to Chinese battery giant CATL this year. Moreover, many battery manufacturers such as SVOLT and Sunwoda are also using its products.
Xiaomi to Work with BAIC Group to Manufacture Vehicles, Rumors Say
Xiaomi is reportedly negotiating with BAIC Group to jointly produce electric vehicles due to the delay in obtaining the license to produce cars on its own.
The report shows that, at present, the two sides are exploring ways of working together, including Xiaomi‘s direct purchase of Beijing Hyundai No.2 Plant, which has a license to produce cars.
Baidu Capital Appoints Li Xiaoyang as New CEO
Baidu Capital, a fund jointly launched by Beijing-based internet giant Baidu, Inc. and China Life Insurance Company, on August 25 appointed Li Xiaoyang as the new CEO. Li, who is the former vice president of Baidu, will be joining the board of directors, in charge of the investment and M&A department. CATL Plans to Introduce Condensed Batteries in 2023
Wu Kai, the chief scientist of Chinese battery giant CATL, revealed on August 28 at the 2022 World New Energy Vehicle Congress that the firm plans to launch a new-generation “condensed battery” next year.
Meituan Reports 16.4% YoY Increase of Q2 Revenue
Meituan, China’s leading e-commerce platform for services, saw its revenues increase by 16.4% to 50.9 billion yuan ($7.42 billion) in the second quarter of the year, according to its financial report released on August 26.
